A modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Check out writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A Landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a Landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases, so that oil and gas can be drilled.

Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camps), assemble the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, part problem solver, and part facilitator. It’s formula TV, but by a writer who will be remembered decades from now, much like Norman Lear is today. The difference here seems to be geography.
Mother-daughter-father-family dynamic mismatch?
It’s another niche Western show and it’s brilliant marketing coupled with great performances from top-quality actors. Oil industry accuracy issues? Apparently. Yes.
Larter is at his best and looks phenomenal
Does that mean none of this plays out the same way in real life? That’s okay, it’s a dynamic and fun production to watch. Thornton is destined for this role, though I’ve read it was written for him only in the first place. Lots of interesting stuff, except the only oddity is that Demi Moore is listed in all 10 episodes.
If not, I’ll wonder what the big deal is
I’ve seen all five shows that have aired so far, and unless it’s just me, I only remember seeing and hearing her once or so, in her pool, for a brief moment. Hamm’s character isn’t seen as much either, but he’s well-acted and embodies his character, but Moore’s character just isn’t allowed to add anything at this point. Maybe it’s written that way and she’ll play a role in later episodes.
