Scenario
A woman married to an important politician during Brazil’s military dictatorship is forced to reinvent herself and forge a new path for herself and her children after her family’s life is affected by a violent and arbitrary act. The film has its flaws, many of which are subjective and are, from my point of view, things I would have done differently in editing
What stands out most is that the film is Brazilian, from my homeland, made from the history of my country, from one of the darkest chapters of our past… And all of this is told through the story of a simple family that experiences simple, happy days until tragedy overwhelms everything and destroys that simple happiness. That’s all.
The performances are flawless in every way
Overall, the film is exceptionally well shot, with a beautiful soundtrack that makes great use of our Brazilian music. The comedic moments are kept in a light and relaxed tone, while the more intense scenes make it clear that the film wants to convey a serious, realistic message, depicting events that have shaped our people. I am happy that this work is appreciated not only by the world, but also by the Brazilian people.
I sincerely hope that this achievement will finally be recognized at the Oscars and that our beloved Fernanda Torres will be honored – an actress who came out of one of the world’s greatest actresses, Fernanda Montenegro, who is unfairly overlooked by the Academy
